Heathcliff’s vengeful behavior in Wuthering Heights is the result of treatment by both Hindley and Catherine. When Hindley returns from boarding school he brings home a wife who “a few words from her, evincing a dislike to heathcliff were enough to rouse in him all his old hatred of the boy. he drove him from their company to the servants”(Bronte 49). Forcing Heathcliff to be a servant and refusing him access to education which causes him to be angry and vengeful against hindley. Catherine contributes by rejecting Heathcliff and choosing Edgar over him even though she didn't love edgar to the same extent that she loved Heathcliff. This constant emotional torture causes Heathcliff to hate everyone around him and seek revenge.
